Heading south from Brussels, urban concrete quickly yields to the majestic canopy of the Sonian Forest, where ancient beech avenues provide a grand exit from the capital. The route then cuts through the undulating agricultural plains of Walloon Brabant, passing historic brick farmsteads and quiet countryside.
The mid-way milestone is Namur, marked by the dramatic meeting of the Sambre and Meuse rivers beneath a massive hilltop citadel. Leaving the valley floor, the topography shifts abruptly as the track enters the rugged foothills of the Ardennes. Punchy climbs and sweeping forest descents define the final stretch through dense woodlands and deep limestone valleys. The day finishes in Rochefort, a town deeply rooted in Trappist brewing tradition and framed by prominent medieval castle ruins.
