Day 3 is where the route starts to feel properly cross-country: about 140 km from Champagne into Lorraine. After Châlons, the road stays open and agricultural, with wind, fields and small villages doing most of the talking. Around Revigny-sur-Ornain the line turns more decisively east, then Bar-le-Duc adds stone streets and Renaissance façades before the terrain gets lumpier. Past Ligny-en-Barrois and Commercy, the day moves through woods, farmland and quiet valleys. Toul finishes it with its old town, cathedral and defensive walls. Long, useful, never empty.
