South of Luçon, the Vendée turns flat and full of water. The route crosses canals, meadows and small villages on the edge of the Marais Poitevin before heading towards the Aiguillon Bay and the La Rochelle corridor. After Charron and Esnandes, the coast feels closer, even when the road stays slightly inland. Rochefort adds the Charente, harbour basins and city streets to the stage. From there, marshland, straight roads and pine sections lead towards Saujon. Royan ends the day with the Atlantic, its seafront and the Gironde estuary.
