Rotterdam fades quickly as the route heads south into a landscape shaped by water, dikes and wide horizons. You follow branches of the Maas through quiet polders, with levees and small ferries breaking the rhythm. Crossing into Belgium feels almost unnoticed. Past Bergen op Zoom, the scenery turns a little rougher, more untamed, before you trace the Scheldt River into Antwerp. Harbour cranes, industry, history.
