Description

This New Orleans to Jacksonville Beach bike tour crosses from the Mississippi Delta to the Atlantic in nine stages. The route starts in New Orleans, follows the US 90 corridor to Biloxi and continues along the Gulf Coast to Mobile. From there, it crosses the Mobile Bay area, Baldwin County and Pensacola before entering Florida. East of Pensacola, the route leaves the coast and rides through the Florida Panhandle: DeFuniak Springs, Marianna, Tallahassee, Madison and Macclenny mark the stage towns on the way east. Along the route are bridges, marshland, Gulf Islands, pine forest, small inland towns, the Suwannee River, Osceola National Forest and the urban final approach through Jacksonville to the beach. A route for cyclists looking for Gulf Coast riding, Panhandle roads, long US 90 sections and a clear coast-to-coast finish. Create an account to see all stages, maps, GPX files and route details.

Route

This tour is long, flat and therefore not easy. The main factors are wind, heat, humidity, traffic and many stretches on wide connector roads. Along the coast, exposed bridges and causeways can make a day harder than the elevation profile suggests. Riders who start early, plan resupply carefully and choose stops deliberately get a clear route across the southern United States. The opening part stays close to the water. Marshland, lagoons, bays, the Sound, beaches and harbour areas alternate with...
