Day 1 leaves Atami above Sagami Bay and stays close to the Pacific for most of the ride. After the first drop from town, the route settles into a coastal rhythm: sea wall, fishing harbour, short climb, small town, repeat. Ajiro and Itō keep the northern Izu Peninsula busy with onsen hotels, local traffic and water never far from the road. South of Itō the stage gets sharper. The line climbs toward Izu-Kōgen and passes the volcanic edge of the Jogasaki Coast before dropping back toward the sea. Around Kawazu the coast feels quieter and more open. The final kilometres run past pale beaches near Shirahama, then into Shimoda, an old port town at the southern end of the peninsula. 71 km, about 850 m of climbing, and a clear warning: coastal does not mean flat.
