From Balsthal, the route climbs straight back into the Jura. Over the Oberer Hauenstein, it reaches Langenbruck, with wooded slopes, open pastures and wide views across the Basel region. A long descent then follows through the Waldenburg valley towards Liestal. Later, the Rhine appears near Rheinfelden before the route crosses into Germany. Beyond the river, the terrain becomes hillier again: the Dinkelberg, small Black Forest villages and green valleys shape the final kilometres up to Schwand.
