After Burgos, the cathedral drops out of sight quickly and the Meseta takes over. The route climbs south out of the city through open hills, small villages, stone walls and fields. Around the Arlanza country, the landscape becomes drier: limestone, oaks, grain, wide sky and very little shade. The high point comes in the second half, before the road starts losing altitude. Near Aranda de Duero, vineyards appear more often. The stage ends in Ribera del Duero wine country, with the old town, bridges and the Duero riverbank.
