Aranda de Duero falls behind in wine country, then the Castilian plateau takes over. The route climbs south-west out of Ribera del Duero, passing vineyards, grain fields, bare hills and small villages. Near Fuentidueña, the Duratón comes close; later the road continues through Cantalejo and Turégano towards the Sierra de Guadarrama. The final kilometres sit higher and more exposed before Segovia appears. The aqueduct, cathedral and Alcázar give the stage a strong finish after roughly 100 kilometres.
