From western Freiburg, the route goes straight into the Rhine plain. It stays flat, passing open fields, small towns and quiet connecting roads near the Kaiserstuhl. After Bötzingen and Endingen, the Rhine comes closer; near Sasbach, the route crosses into France. On the Alsatian side, the day becomes wider and straighter. Marckolsheim and the villages of the plain bring long, fast kilometres, while the Vosges line is already visible to the west. Toward Guémar and Bergheim, vineyards, older village centres and smaller roads enter the ride. The final kilometres lead to Ribeauvillé at the edge of the wine hills. Castle ruins sit above the town, and the route finishes much closer to the mountains than where it started.
