Deep sandstone canyons give way to the rugged river basins of the Guadiana Menor as the route heads north from Gorafe. The morning track drops down from the high clay plateau, navigating heavily eroded gullies and loose gravel washes. This segment crosses the arid depression of the Fardes river system, where the terrain forces a series of short, punchy climbs through stark desert badlands. After crossing the main river corridor, the sandy double-track turns toward the southern border of Jaén province. Stark desert colors gradually shift to muted greens as extensive olive groves reappear on the slopes. A final winding ascent brings the stage to a close in Hinojares, a quiet enclave nestled tightly against the limestone foothills of the Sierra de Cazorla.
