A relentless alpine challenge replaces the dry badlands as the route pierces into the dense pine forests of the Sierra de Cazorla Natural Park. The double-track climbs sharply out of Hinojares, switching loose gravel for rugged forestry trails. The physical pinnacle of the stage hits at the high pass near the Refugio Collado Zamora, tracking along soaring limestone ridges where vultures catch the mountain thermals. The dense mountain forest opens up to reveal dramatic views across deep craggy chasms. A long, technical descent over rough limestone tracks winds downward into the lush valley of the upper Guadalquivir River. The day finishes deep within the shaded valley floor at El Valle, surrounded by towering vertical rock faces.
