Day three starts by the Saale and heads south-west out of Halle. Around Merseburg and Bad Lauchstädt, the city drops away quickly: fields, quiet backroads, villages with church towers, then the lake landscape around the Geiseltal. After that, the route becomes hillier on the way towards Thuringia. The final kilometres climb properly before Weimar comes into view. The stage finishes with the Ilm Park, old-town streets and cobbles under the wheels.
