Jausiers still belongs to the Ubaye valley, but the route turns uphill early. Via Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, the road climbs to Col de Vars, first through mountain villages and green slopes, then across open pastureland and the ski area around Vars. After the pass, a long descent leads towards Guillestre, where the scenery changes: less Ubaye, more Queyras, more rock. The route enters the Gorges du Guil, with a narrow road, steep walls and the river running deep below. From there, the Col d’Izoard builds gradually. Beyond Arvieux and Brunissard comes its most recognisable section: the Casse Déserte, with pale scree, rock pinnacles and bare high-mountain terrain. After the pass, the route drops through Cervières to Briançon and finishes in the valley at Saint-Chaffrey.
