The route moves west out of Saga Prefecture, trading flat plains for winding mountain roads flanked by dense cedar forests and traditional pottery valleys. A long ascent tests the legs before revealing wide, open views across the quiet waters of Omura Bay. Following the rugged spine of the Nishisonogi Peninsula, the asphalt twists through isolated fishing hamlets where the scent of sea salt fills the air. The final descent drops sharply into the terraced amphitheater of Nagasaki city. Trams rattle past old merchant quarters and historic stone bridges, offering a stark, vibrant contrast to the solitary miles spent on the ridges.
