The Nevėžis valley sets the direction for the day. Leaving Kaunas, the route heads north through Babtai and Labūnava, past level fields and village gardens and small patches of woodland. At Kėdainiai it stays on the eastern side of the river before returning to longer stretches of farmland. Šeteniai adds a literary connection: the poet Czesław Miłosz was born here, and the meadows and wooded banks of the Nevėžis formed the landscape of his childhood. Further north, open fields alternate with small stands of trees and scattered farms. Most of the approximately 111 kilometres accumulate on long, gently graded sections between settlements. Panevėžys brings a change of scale at the finish, with the broad Laisvės Square, its trees and surrounding town buildings offering space for a pause.
