From Murten, the day first runs through the open Broye country: Avenches with its Roman remains, Payerne with its abbey church, then the road starts to roll harder. Beyond Romont, the route works through green hills and climbs to just over 900 metres before dropping towards Lake Geneva. At Montreux the lake suddenly fills the view, with Château de Chillon sitting close to the shore soon after. The final part is more direct: through the Chablais, past Aigle, Saint-Maurice and Martigny, into the vineyards of Chamoson.
