Basel does not stay in the frame for long: the route pushes through Dornach, past the Goetheanum, and climbs onto the Jura foothills around Hochwald. The next section is all forest, pasture and tight bends towards Seewen, before dropping into Balsthal with Neu-Falkenstein above the valley. From Oensingen the day changes pace. The Aare leads into Solothurn, then the line runs through the flat Seeland via Lyss, Aarberg and Kerzers. Near Murten, fields, canals and the first views towards Lake Murten take over.
