The closing section leaves Rankweil through the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley and heads north towards Dornbirn and Bregenz. Around the Lake Constance area, the scenery changes clearly: narrow Alpine valleys give way to open shoreline country, orchards and the first rolling hills of the Allgäu. Beyond Lindau, the route crosses the western Allgäu, passing Wangen, Leutkirch and smaller towns set between meadows, farms and patches of woodland. Farther east, the terrain becomes broader and calmer. Memmingen, Mindelheim and Buchloe mark the transition into Bavarian Swabia. The final part approaches the Munich area without entering the city centre, passing suburbs, river meadows and flatter farmland before reaching the Freising side of the airport.
