Saint-Quentin stays behind with its basilica, canals and Art Deco façades, then the route turns north-east into the Vermandois. The stage is short, but not empty: open fields, low rises, hedgerows and brick villages shape the road. This is not a day built around one major monument. Its value lies in the plain northern landscape itself — straight roads, wide views and the clear shift from the Aisne towards the Cambrésis. Around Fresnoy-le-Grand and Maretz, the terrain becomes gently rolling before Caudry comes closer. The finish is not a polished postcard town, but a place with its own identity: textile craft, lace production and the brick-built character of northern France.
