There is no long warm-up out of Superior. The road starts climbing almost as soon as the town is behind you. The route follows US 60 east and enters the rockier section above Superior. Queen Creek Canyon, Queen Creek Tunnel and the cuts around Waterfall Canyon make this part tighter than the previous day: fewer buildings, more rock wall, guardrail and road shoulder. Near Top-of-the-World the route reaches more than 1,300 metres. It does not stay high for long, but drops and rolls through dry hills toward Miami. The final kilometres become more industrial: tailings, mine sites and wide scars in the ground. Globe is not a polished finish, but it fits the stage: copper town, road junction, practical base for the next day.
