From Valence, the stage continues south into the quieter, warmer stretch of the Rhône Valley. For much of the day the route stays flat and close to the river, but the scenery begins to soften: orchards, rows of poplars, side arms of the Rhône and the first hints of garrigue. Cruas, Rochemaure and medieval Viviers add character along the way, mixing abbey stone, old bridge views and narrow historic streets. Beyond Pont-Saint-Esprit, the route slowly leaves the big river behind. Towards Bagnols-sur-Cèze and Castillon-du-Gard, limestone, small villages and warm southern light take over.
