The final stage does not take the shortest line back to Freiburg. From Oberrotweil, the route first leaves the Kaiserstuhl through vineyards, open fields and flat roads, including a quiet stretch across the farmland east of the Rhine plain. After roughly 30 kilometres, the Black Forest starts to take over. Instead of rolling straight into the city, the route turns into the hills and collects most of its 660 metres of climbing on the way towards St. Peter. The high point sits at about 740 metres. From there, the view changes from Kaiserstuhl and plain to Black Forest slopes, meadows and wooded sections. The finish is a long return downhill, through the valleys on the edge of the Dreisamtal, before Freiburg closes the loop.
