This 4-day cycling tour from Freiburg heads into Alsace and takes in two of the defining climbs of the Vosges: Petit Ballon and Grand Ballon. The tour starts with a long stage through the Markgräflerland, the Rhine plain and Alsatian towns to Osenbach. Two fixed mountain loops follow: first on small roads, vineyard slopes, forest and pastures to Petit Ballon, then via Soultzmatt, Guebwiller, Col Amic and the high ground around Grand Ballon. The final day returns to Freiburg via Rouffach, Neuf-Brisach and Breisach. The route combines flat approaches, long climbs, quiet villages, vineyards, pass roads and wide views across the Rhine plain.
