High above the coast, the day begins on the outer slopes of the Sierra Nevada. The route heads west through dry valleys, almond trees and pale mountain villages, with long views towards the peaks. Around Purullena and Guadix, the landscape turns earthier: cave houses, badlands, ravines and soft clay hills shape the edge of the Granada Geopark. Then comes the harder section via La Peza and the passes towards Quéntar. The final kilometres drop into Granada, with the old town, Albaicín and Alhambra rising above the city.
