After the long opening day, the second stage is shorter, but not flat. From La Grange, the route heads northeast out of the Colorado River area and into the rolling farmland between Fayette and Washington County. The climbing comes in small waves: short rises, dips, open pasture, tree lines, farm entrances and scattered houses. Round Top is the clearest change of place on the day. The small town is known for its antiques scene, but outside show periods it feels quiet and easy to read from the road. Carmine and Burton follow, with the railway, older buildings and the historic cotton-gin setting around Burton. Before Brenham, buildings become more frequent. The finish is a proper supply town with downtown streets, motels, restaurants and the Blue Bell connection.
