After Briançon’s Vauban walls, the route follows the Durance downstream: Saint-Martin-de-Queyrières, L’Argentière-la-Bessée, then the lower ground around Guillestre and Mont-Dauphin. From there, the day turns uphill. The climb to Vars runs through forest, open slopes and ski villages before the Col de Vars shifts the scenery into drier southern Alps. The descent drops into the Ubaye valley: Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, La Condamine-Châtelard, grey rock, clear air. Jausiers sits in the basin below.
