From Brussels, the route first leaves through the south-eastern side of the city towards Tervuren. The setting then becomes noticeably greener: parks, suburbs and the edge of the Sonian Forest mark the shift from capital city to Walloon Brabant. Beyond Overijse and Grez-Doiceau, the route follows small roads through fields, farm entrances and villages. Towards Jodoigne, Hannut and Waremme, the Hesbaye takes over: wide arable land, low rises, wind and settlements built from pale stone and brick. The final kilometres leave this farming landscape for the Liège area. The finish is a dense Meuse city with bridges, narrow streets, steep slopes and the Montagne de Bueren above the centre.
