From Mobile, the route reaches open water quickly. It uses the US 90/98 Causeway through the Mobile Bay area toward Spanish Fort: wide road, bridges, marshland, waterfront restaurants and the USS Alabama area at the western end. After that, the stage continues east through Baldwin County, passing suburbs, farmland, forest sections and long stretches on connector roads. Robertsdale and Elberta sit close to the route before the crossing of Perdido Bay at Lillian brings the ride into Florida. From Pensacola, the day becomes more urban. The route crosses the western side of the city, continues through the Pensacola Bay area to Gulf Breeze and finishes at Pensacola Beach on Santa Rosa Island.
