Nürnberg sends the route south through its outer districts and along the Main-Danube Canal towards Schwabach. From there, the stage turns more rural: Georgensgmünd, Pleinfeld, Ellingen and Weißenburg mark the way across Franconia, with town gates, Baroque fronts and the edge of the Franconian Lake District. After Treuchtlingen, the easy valley riding is over for a while. The road climbs onto the Monheimer Alb before rolling through Monheim and Wörnitzstein. The final kilometres follow the Wörnitz into Donauwörth, ending at the old town and the Danube.
