The Sardinian journey begins in Olbia. As the busy port fades away, the route enters the wild Gallura region, filled with the rich scent of Mediterranean macchia and cork oaks. The opening stage serves up 81km and a rewarding 1200m uphill.
The road climbs steadily, passing the striking granite peaks of Monte Limbara into the historic mountain town of Tempio Pausania—ideal for a quick espresso on the piazza. From there, the route traverses the surreal Valle della Luna near Aggius, a valley defined by bizarre, moon-like rock formations. Pure escapism on two wheels.
A smooth final descent leads back to the coast, where the vibrant red granite shores of Isola Rossa glow against the deep blue sea. The first day in the saddle ends with bare feet in the sand.
