Leaving the red granite coast of Isola Rossa behind, this stage heads inland towards Sardinia’s second-largest city. The route initially traces the Gulf of Asinara, passing the wide sandy flats of Valledoria. A notable roadside landmark is the Roccia dell’Elefante, an ancient trachytic rock eroded into the shape of an elephant, which once served as a prehistoric burial site.
Beyond the coastline, the terrain shifts significantly. The track climbs into the hills of the Romangia region, where steep gradients open up to panoramic views over the terraced vineyards of Sennori and Sorso, famous for local Cannonau wine.
The day concludes in the historic heart of Sassari. Cobbled alleyways lead riders toward the grand Piazza d'Italia and the baroque Saint Nicholas Cathedral.
