Marseille does not fade out politely: harbour city first, then suburbs, then the valley towards Aubagne. After that the day turns more Provençal and more vertical. Around Cuges-les-Pins, the road sits between limestone slopes, dry ground and pines; later it climbs above 400 m before the Var begins to open ahead. Le Beausset and Évenos bring villages, stone walls and tighter bends. Through Ollioules, the route drops into Toulon – naval harbour below, mountains behind, the Mediterranean back in view.
