Description

This two-day cycling route runs from the south-western edge of London to Abergavenny in Wales. From the London area, it uses smaller roads through Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, passing Cobham, Ripley, Fleet, Hook and the villages north of Basingstoke. After Chieveley and East Ilsley, the route reaches the open chalk hills of the Downs, passes through the Lambourn area near White Horse Hill and continues towards Swindon. Day two is a long westbound stage through Wiltshire, past Royal Wootton Bassett and north of Chippenham, before reaching the Severn Bridge at Aust. After crossing into Wales, the route continues through Chepstow, Devauden, the hills of Monmouthshire, Usk and the final approach to Abergavenny. A direct ride from England into Wales: hedge-lined lanes, chalk downland, the Severn crossing, the Wye Valley and the first Welsh hills. Navigation matters here. The route changes direction often and uses smaller roads instead of a simple through-line. The second day feels more open and more exposed. There is more ro...
