From Navasota, the stage heads east out of the Brazos River area. The opening kilometres use smaller roads through pasture, fields and scattered houses. After that, the day becomes longer and more wooded. Richards is one of the few settlements on the route; beyond it, the ride continues through rural sections with farm entrances, fences, tree lines and short rolling climbs. Near New Waverly, the route reaches the Sam Houston National Forest area. From here, there is more forest, shorter sightlines and wetter low ground along the road. The final kilometres remain rolling before Coldspring. The town sits near Lake Livingston and works as a quiet stage finish, with basic services, a courthouse area and the Pineywoods continuing east across this part of Texas.
