The day starts in the far north-east of Greece, where the Evros sets the border. From Ptelea, it is only a short ride to Ormenio; soon after, Greece ends and the route enters Turkish Thrace. Edirne comes early enough to be more than a pass-through. The Selimiye Mosque sits just off the line and dominates the city with its great dome and four minarets; Sinan considered the complex one of his major works. The Meriç Bridge towards Karaağaç also fits the stage, because river, border and city history meet there. After Edirne, the ride turns more rural again. Through Havsa and Babaeski, the road crosses fields, small towns and rolling country before reaching Lüleburgaz. At the finish, the Sokullu Mehmet Paşa complex brings one more piece of Sinan architecture into the day.
