This stage puts the jump from Ljubljana to the Adriatic into one long day. The route leaves the city across the Ljubljana Marshes towards Vrhnika and Logatec: flat, damp, open ground first. Then the work begins. After Kalce, the road climbs towards the Karst and Hrušica edge, topping out just below 900 metres. Beyond Col, the route drops towards Ajdovščina and the Vipava Valley. Down there, the air feels warmer, the valley wider and the wind more exposed. Via the Nova Gorica/Gorizia area, the ride crosses into Italy, then runs through Karst country and near the Isonzo to Monfalcone, with the harbour and Adriatic at the end.
