Turin gives way to Piedmont without much fuss: flat roads, farm country, irrigation channels and the Alps fixed on the horizon. The route passes Moncalieri and Carignano, then runs through Pancalieri and the open Po plain to Moretta. Near Saluzzo, the day gains sharper edges: the old town sits below the mountains, with Monviso often the landmark in the west. Castello della Manta follows close to the line. From Busca the road rises gently, ending in Cuneo on its raised plateau between the Stura and Gesso rivers.
