Lake Como, the Galibier, the Mediterranean: this eight-day bikepacking route links Milan with Nice and the Côte d’Azur. Lakeside promenades lead to Turin’s squares, then the long pass roads of the French Alps. At Mont Cenis, a reservoir lies between pastures and old forts. La Meije’s glaciers rise above the Romanche valley, while further south the Var cuts through the red rocks of Daluis. The final kilometres follow pebble beaches to the edge of Nice’s old town. Water connects the changing landscapes of this cycling journey: first beside the road, then far below it, and finally stretching to the horizon.
