Regenstauf still belongs to the Regen valley, but this stage soon turns down towards the Danube. The route leaves the market town to the south, passes the Regensburg area and reaches one of the day’s clearest landmarks near Donaustauf: the Walhalla stands high above the river and is easy to pick out from the Danube plain. From there, the road follows the broad valley eastwards. Floodplains, fields, small villages and low hills keep the Danube as the main line through the day. Around Wörth an der Donau, the castle adds another strong reference point; farther on, the landscape becomes quieter and more Lower Bavarian. Before the finish, Bogenberg comes into view. Bogen sits below this distinctive hill, with its pilgrimage church above town and the Bavarian Forest already close on the horizon.
