The tour starts at the ferry port of Ancona, follows the flat coastline at first, then crosses Emilia-Romagna via Bologna, Modena, Parma and Piacenza. After that, the riding becomes more varied: vineyards, smaller roads, Piedmont, Liguria and the descent to the Mediterranean near Sanremo.
