The route links Franconian cities, the Upper Palatinate Jura, the Danube valleys of Bavaria and Austria, the Wachau, Vienna, Bratislava, Žitný ostrov and the Hungarian Danube Bend. Along the way, Nürnberg, Regensburg, Walhalla, Passau, the Schlögener Schlinge, Linz, Melk, Dürnstein, Vienna, Bratislava, Komárno and Esztergom sit directly on or close to the route.
